Authenticity is simply being real and being yourself. This might be easy for some but it might take a life time for others to discover and act in being authentic.
Being authentic appears to be the buzz word these day. The times were are living right now is a revolutionary time of self discovery and declaring your adorable weirdness, and your lovable flaws. Many years ago in America there appeared to be a script for everyone, manifested by all the goofy heart warming television shows dated back to the 1950's. But if you didn't fit into those categories you were considered "different", and in some situations an out cast. People suffered deeply back in the day because of the "image" and the ideal America was projecting to Americans and the world.
In truth America and the world is diverse in race, gender, culture , beliefs and practices. Actually it has always been this way. But never the less an image was created, and a narrow way of being was the norm. This so called normalization caused people to suppress who they are by becoming as close as possible to behaving, looking, and acting like carbon copy people.
After the explosion of the 1960's, when a new generation of young people began to push the envelope by challenging everything in the "establishment", this revolutionary movement caused an eruption that changed the world. Which has set today's times in motion. People are not clones, although we are similar in our humanity, we have been created to be authentically our selves which is a gift to the world.
