Over the years there has been so much information written about "Callings". So here's my take. A calling is something so strong inside of you, over time it becomes so loud that you must answer or it will literally drive you nuts. A calling is involuntary much like breathing, and as vital as breathing is, you must do it to sustain life. I know , I know that description sounds dramatic but any one who has answered the call know exactly what I'm talking about.
News flash everyone has been called, everyone has a calling. Don't let anyone tell you only so and so has a calling and you don't. There is no elite group of people who have been called everyone has been blessed and burden with a calling!
Blessed because it's your life message, your assignment , burdened because it isn't the charmed life there can be many obstacles and challenges, when or if you decide to answer the call. In answering the call you can appear to be foolish, crazy, unrealistic, lofty, pretentious, an ego maniac, different, and down right annoying.

If you decide to not answer the call, you can become depressed, distant, confused, mediocre, resentful, angry and experience feelings of regret. You can also numb it out by using drugs, alcohol, sex and anything that can keep it at bay. Not answering the call is living the shadow life, the half life, what I could have become and now it's too late to pursue it! Just breath and take the first step.
Answering the call is like being on a long journey and you just walked into your home. The ever presence of that deep sigh of relief as you walk into the door, you can totally be yourself, that warm feeling of I can be me 100%, I am comfortable and free.
Callings don't have to have a dramatic entrance such as going to Tibet and sitting with the monks in silence for seven years, or perhaps this could be your journey! But a calling is that still small voice, navigating you to become more of you; it's the desire that there is more of you that's required.
Being called does requires soul searching, what is God speaking to your heart about? Some people hear at an early age and they don't deviate from the path. Others can become restless and not being satisfied with their life , even a life with the appearance of everything appearing to be great on the outside. But internally you know there's something missing. Sometimes people experience deep tragedy and loss, and life changes profoundly before they answer the call. Remember in The Lion King when the father told the son when he was "Hakuna Matata" and the father spoke to him and said" you are more than what you have become" Simba was the son of a King , the successor to the throne. He was frightened but remembered, and it would take a lion's heart to defeat his evil uncle but he could no longer be comfortable where he was, because he was destined to do greater things!
