Butterflies are fascinating. Their wing span is about 4 inches and they only weigh 1/5 of an ounce. The creation of a butterfly is even more amazing the caterpillar outgrows and shed skins four times, the fifth time it disappears into an exotic wrapping called a chrysalis. The caterpillar disappears and is formed into the chrysalis, this state last for about ten days. After ten days the chrysalis is completely transformed into the butterfly. Before the butterfly can take flight the wings must dry and harden for at least two hours. Then they are ready to take flight.
Even more impressive is their aeronautic prowess. The Monarch butterfly has the ability to fly to Mexico from Canada, which is 2,000 miles away every year in November. Millions take flight to their destination in the mountains of Mexico 10,000 feet to hover, attach themselves to trees for warmth until spring time.
It is grueling and sometimes a fatal trek . Larger animals sometimes eat them. Rain can be deadly, and many do die from the rain. But they have flight intelligence in their DNA. They only fly when weather conditions are perfect. In order to make their pilgrimage to Mexico on time they have to fly at least 50 miles a day. It can be exhausting, they stop to get nectar and water. What's astonishing is their ability to soar. Soaring is an effortless glide it conserves their energy. Many butterflies don't make this trek , but millions do and they are on time every year. The Mexican village prosper from them as well. Their economy goes up because many people come to see this magnificent phenomenon.
Life is about transformation becoming who we are born to be by going through physical, mental, and spiritual changes. Growth can be risky and perilous. But in order to be who we are born to be, it is so important to take risk, to move out of our comfort zones, to get uncomfortable, to exercise faith. Like the butterfly we can learn how to soar to become champions through effort and tenacity and perseverance. When our wings are strong enough to reach the higher places, we then master ourselves and bring great blessings to others. That's where the real beauty is, the goal is realizing your purpose.
