During the holiday seasons the ritual of cleaning up, and deep cleaning is probably a normal practice in some households. It certainly is in mine. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday in my house as a child meant serious cleaning. My mother's favorite thing to do was to cook, and she would cook up a storm. But before she start her marathon cooking for the holidays the house had to be cleaned from top to bottom . It included closets, washing everything, cleaning refrigerators and floors. It was a part of the family ritual in the Jones's house.

My mother past away about three years ago. She is so missed by our family but she would be proud to know that her legacy is intact. My sister and I still do the holiday cleaning, getting our carpet cleaned and our homes ready so basically the army of relatives and friends can mess it up. Crazy right but never the less the house had to shine before they arrived.

In my home there is more tile than carpet. The carpet was cleaned, but the floors needed deep cleaning, grout cleaning. Now for those of you who have the grout situation you know you are going to have to pay to get this job done which can add on to holiday spending. Also you are charged by the square footage of your home and that can rack up the final cost.

So I decided that the money I could save could possibly go toward holiday spending and I would do my floors along with hopefully family members that would help. Well as it turns out I had some help from my daughter-in-law, but it was no easy task.

We purchased a bio-degradable grout cleaner to pour and soak the floors. My friend that had gotten her grandson to do her kitchen floors, told me about a grout brush. So we purchased it so we didn't have to get on our knees. The brush has a handle like a broom.

Let me just say grout cleaning is no easy task, but as strange as it sounds it was therapy for me. While I was grinding with the brush to reach that stubborn dirt, I was also releasing any frustration, grudge or anger that I had recently held onto. The back and forth motion using my brush was great for my arms and the occasional bending to take a closer look at my work satisfied my squats for the week. It was a total work out, plus I utilized the time for some deep praying. I kid you not it was a powerful experience. I felt calm and accomplished when we finally finished. I do recommend grout cleaning it is total therapy and the cost is less than twenty dollars, but the results are fantastic!
